The new SICOT India National Committee was installed largely by consensus, in September 2011 when Prof. Prabodh Desai worked out a consensus with over a dozen active SICOT members in the fray. Dr. Ashok Johari was nominated the National Delegate, and Dr. Mandeep Dhillon and Dr. Anil Jain were nominated to the National Committee. .

About National Committee Members:



Prof. Ashok Johari has been a member of SICOT since the 1980's. After a brilliant career he trained in his chosen field - Paediatric Orthopaedics with numerous fellowships in Japan, England, France, and USA. He has been the recipient of the Cotrel Dubousset, the Yamamuro, the IOA Kanagawa and INOR-BOA and the International Traveling Fellowship of the Scoliosis Research Society. He pioneered the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics in India with the formation of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of India (POSI) in 1994 as its Founder Secretary, and later as President from 2005 to 2011. He was the first in the country to start a paediatric orthopaedic unit at the L.T.M.G. Hospital and Medical College in Mumbai in 1986 and to pursue exclusive paediatric practice. He pioneered many techniques and surgeries in India including many hip and spine surgeries in children, and is well known for his classification of septic arthritis of the hip, gliding movements of the neck, his uniplanar distractor and for the anteroposterior single incision approach to the spine. Dr. Johari was instrumental in the formation of the Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy of which he was the founder Vice President and he finishes his term as President this year.

Dr. Johari was the first orthopaedic surgeon from India to be appointed as Editor in Chief of the prestigious international journal - the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics (British).

He was President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association in 2010. His presidency was marked by initiatives for better patient care through orthopaedic education, research and technology.

Dr Mandeep Dhillon is Professor and Head of Department of Orthopaedics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. A great enthusiast, he is now the Vice President of the Indian Arthroplasty Association and Editor of the Indian Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, Vice President of Indian Association of Sports Medicine and also connected with a number of Sports Authorities in India. He is on the membership committee of ISAKOS and a council member of AO Trauma (India). Scientifically, his enthusiasm runs into many papers, publications and research projects, nationally and internationally.

Dr Anil K Jain, MS, MAMS, FRCS attained MS Orthopaedics in 1984 from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. He underwent Senior Registrar training (1985-88) from Central Institute of Orthopaedics, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. He later joined as Lecturer in Orthopaedics (1988) at University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi. He was promoted as Reader in 1992 and as Professor of Orthopaedics in 1997. He was awarded WHO fellowship (1992) for training in spine surgery, IOA foreign fellowship (1999), AO fellowship (2000) and Commonwealth fellowship (2010) for training in spine surgery. He delivered Silver Jubilee lecture of IOA in 1993 and various other orations of state chapters. His area of interest is spine and spinal tuberculosis. He has published over 100 articles in various International indexed journals. He has written many invited review articles in international journal on spinal TB. He was Guest Editor for Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research in the year 2005 and 2007 for symposium on "Management of Neglected Trauma" and "Spinal Tuberculosis". He was associated with Indian Orthopaedic Association in various capacities as Member, Executive Committee (1994-97), Chairman, Implant Committee (2002-2004), Chairman, Superspeciality Training Committee (2004-2006) and Editor of Indian Journal of Orthopaedics from 2006 onwards. Noteable contribution of Prof Anil K Jain is that Indian Journal of Orthopaedics got indexed with "Pubmed" and "Science Citation Expanded" since 2009. He has been elected as SecretaryGeneral of World Orthopaedic Concern in 2011 and a member, executive committee, SICOT,India.
